Springfield teams up with EYMS
EYMS sets up a commercial training division
The Hull based EYMS Group has announced the formal establishment of a separate training division named EYMS Bus & Coach Training, to build on its well-established and successful bus & coach driver training expertise.
The EU Training Directive, which applies to bus and coach drivers from this September, requires all vocational licence holders to undergo 35 hours “Periodic Training” every 5 years in order to qualify for the new driver CPC - Certificate of Driver Competence - and keep their licence in force. In addition, all new drivers must undergo a more thorough initial training in order to gain their CPC.
This means that much more training will be required by the bus & coach industry and EYMS, with its excellent record in driver training, is now able to offer its services to third parties to help meet the increased demand.
EYMS is partnered in this development by Springfield Management Training Ltd, a Hull-based independent training provider with whom the company has worked closely for several years. Nick Bardsley, Managing Director of Springfield Training said, ” Springfield is delighted to be working in partnership with EYMS Group to assist in the provision of periodic training to the company and other operators. We have developed each of our 7 hour periodic training courses, in collaboration with EYMS, to reflect the context of the industry and enable practical application of each topic covered.”
EYMS has already recieved formal DSA approval for their upgraded training centre based at Anlaby Road, Hull, and has refurbished its classroom facilities to the new standards required by the Directive. The company also has a fleet of 5 specially adapted training buses. All periodic training courses have now been registered with JAUPT ready for a January 2009 start.
EYMS Chairman, Peter Shipp, said, ” Our training division is already widely acknowledged within the industry as a centre of excellence and we were runners-up in a national industry award scheme last year. Since we need to increase training for our own staff because of the Training Directive, we can take this opportunity to offer our expertise to other bus and coach operators, local authorities and other organisations to benefit from our facilities and from whom we would welcome enquiries.”
