Hi I’m Helen. I am the Operations Manager at Springfield Training.
I have many years’ experience within the adult learning sector, including a further education college and several private training providers. I have held a variety of senior management posts and I am passionate about quality delivery and the learners’ development.
Helping people to achieve is the reason I am still in the training industry.
I am a strong leader who thrives on finding solutions, implementing procedures and getting results. I strongly believe in coaching, mentoring and developing my team to support them to achieve the best possible results.
Previously, I worked in the hospitality industry in many roles; including Restaurant Manager, Chef and Trainer. Customer service has always been at the heart of what I do and continues today within the training sector. I believe that if we look after people, our internal people and customers, then any business will succeed. I still work in the hospitality industry some weekends, as the Front of House Manager, for a bespoke private catering company. I organise and run many events from small private dinner parties to large society weddings.
I am very creative both at work and at home. I enjoy exploring new ideas and then implementing them within a business. I relax by losing myself in my craft room where I can be found creating cards, boxes and paper flowers. I work in a range of mixed medias which is costing me a small fortune, as I’m addicted to craft shops!
My husband and I run a bird rescue centre. We rehome poorly and disabled aviary birds that would otherwise be put to sleep. We currently have around 170 birds, many of which have bred and are now creating a new healthy generation, so I am a proud bird ‘grandmother’! My smallest birds are finches and my largest bird is a European Eagle Owl.
I moved to a new house about 2 years ago and inherited a huge overgrown garden. I have been working to clear and redesign the space. My birds are housed in several aviaries that my husband has built, but the garden is really my domain. I have planted an orchard of apples, pears, plums and cherries. I have a soft fruit area with lots of blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, redcurrants and white currants; the vision is to make fruit wine as there are only so many fruit pies you can eat!
I live in Blackpool with my husband and 2 house cats as my son flew the nest a few years ago. He has recently graduated with a first-class honours degree in Fine Art from Westminster University, making me a very proud mum!
