Apprenticeship summary

Are you passionate about working with nursery aged children? Are you excited about leading, supporting, motivating and guiding children in their play? Are you confident in developing language rich play experiences that reflect the children’s interests?

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Act in accordance with OurBD4 policies, procedures and protocols

To work as part of a team under the direction of the Nursery Manager /Deputy Nursery Manager.

Notify the Nursery Manager / Designated Safeguarding Lead of any safeguarding concerns regarding parents, children, staff, volunteers and students

Provide a safe and stimulating environment in which each individual child can play, develop and learn

Ensuring that children, parents and the staff team work together to provide high quality childcare.

To be a keyperson for a group of children and plan activities that meet the children’s needs

To communicate effectively with all members of staff and to be professional at all times.

Work within the margin of confidentiality respecting information pertaining to children, parents and staff.

Manage your own time effectively to compete tasks by prioritising workload

To contribute and participate in development of new ideas.

To keep up to date on all current childcare issues and legislation.

Take overall responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of the children, ensuring that their needs are met.

To ensure the nursery is fully equipped with basic and essential resources.

To take part in regular staff meetings, parents evenings and community events.

To maintain children’s records to a high standard due to confidentiality.

To observe children through play to identify their individual needs.

To ensure parents are fully happy about the nursery and that new parents are welcomed appropriately giving due regard to their concerns and questions.

Be professional and polite in all verbal and non-verbal interactions with staff, parents, and children at all times.

To observe children’s interests in order to implement ‘in the moment planning’

To help set up the nursery ready for daily activities and help tidy away at the end of session.

To support children’s learning, whilst offering an appropriate level of support and stimulation

To attend in house and external training courses as required.

To assist in observations of children and record keeping of their work.

To comply with The Life Nursery policies and procedures, Early Years Foundation Stage and the OFSTED framework.
